Some people may think that animals have no business in the office. Scientific studies - from Banfield Pet Hospital, for example - have repeatedly proven that dogs and cats at work have a positive impact on the working atmosphere. Employees should be less stressed, morale, dynamism and productivity increased and even cohesion and identification with the company can be strengthened.

Dog in the office: basic rules

In the first step you should of course clarify whether your boss agrees if you bring your dog to the workplace. Immediately afterwards you must of course also ask your colleagues with whom you share an office.

If an employee has an animal hair allergy or is very afraid of dogs, you could - provided the company is large enough and has enough offices - suggest changing the room so that your allergic or anxious colleague does not come into contact with your four-legged friend comes. If this is not an option for the company, you will unfortunately have to accept it.

Basically, the workplace also has to be designed in such a way that the dog can feel comfortable - too loud, hectic or dangerous environmental conditions are ruled out.

Your four-legged friend should meet these requirements

But your dog should also meet some requirements so that you can easily take it to the workplace. He should be able to adhere to certain rules of the game and show an adjusted social behavior. This means that ideally he is used to many (foreign) people, has a friendly nature and behaves calmly.

Puppies and young dogs are unsuitable for taking them to the office because they need even more attention and training. Slowly get your dog used to the workplace

Every beginning is difficult. Therefore, only take your dog to the office for a few hours so that he can get used to the new environment. Make sure that he has a retreat with a basket or blanket, water bowl and possibly also a food bowl, where it does not move and he is close to you.

When he has settled in, if possible, integrate him into your everyday life in a playful way. So your dog will feel comfortable in the office and will not be bored. Chews, toys and nibbles are also suitable to keep him busy. None of this should squeak or smell unpleasant.

Find caregivers for your dog in the office

In the first place, of course, you are the caregiver for your darling. But keep in mind that you can't always be there for him throughout the working day, such as when you're sitting in a meeting. It is therefore important that you familiarize some of your colleagues with your four-legged friend so that they can take care of them while you are in a meeting. In the best case, these are animal-loving employees who may have a dog or at least another pet themselves.

But it doesn't hurt to approach colleagues who are a bit more reserved towards your dog. Perhaps you have not had much experience with animals so far, so you are cautious, but you will be delighted by the friendly nature of your four-legged friend if you only get to know him a little better.
